Buying Duty Free

Carrying your Duty Free Items home in your Luggage

American Citizens are allowed to bring back $800 worth of items per person duty-free in your luggage, (family members can combine their individual $800 exemptions on a joint declaration).

The next $1,000 is taxed at a flat 3 percent. After that, you pay the individual item's duty rate. You can also bring in duty-free a liter of alcohol and 200 cigarettes.

You generally may not carry food items back to the USA due to diseases or pests they may have in them.   You may take home vacuum-packed cheeses; dried herbs, spices, or mushrooms; and canned fruits or vegetables, including jams and vegetable spreads. Baked goods and candy are generally permitted.  . Fresh fruits and vegetables  are not allowed and will be taken from you.
